Every year, over 1,800 volunteer legal interns serve in Justice components and U.S. Attorneys’ Offices throughout the country. Any law student enrolled at least half-time, and who has completed at least one semester of law school, is eligible to apply for a volunteer legal internship.
Department of Justice (DOJ) offices recruit for legal interns through vacancy announcements posted on the DOJ Legal Careers web page. Each announcement lists the applicable deadlines and requirements and students interested in volunteer internships at DOJ for spring and summer 2016 should apply now. Students apply directly to each office in which they have an interest.

Harrity & Harrity is hiring for its successful training program for new patent attorneys who are looking for an opportunity to get their foot in the door at a patent law firm and prove that they have what it takes to be a superstar patent associate. The patent associate trainee program provides in-depth training in patent application drafting with the potential to become a full-time associate with our firm. The patent associate trainee program is a temporary position with our firm for up to four (4) months, during which time, you will be trained in the skills that are needed to prepare high quality patent applications for leading technology companies.
To qualify for this position, you MUST be able to write well. Also, you MUST have a J.D., have passed a bar or are awaiting bar results, and have either a B.S. or M.S. in electrical engineering, computer science, mechanical engineering, or physics. We will consider other similar technical degree backgrounds. Being registered to practice before the USPTO is a plus. During the training program you will be paid a salary, and your lodging will be paid for as well.
Should you successfully complete the training program, there is a strong possibility that you would be offered a full-time associate position with the firm.

The National LGBT Bar Association is pleased to partner with Prudential Financial, Inc. (Prudential) to provide a meaningful summer internship opportunity for a highly-motivated first-year law student. Through this partnership, the National LGBT Bar Association will select one student to join the 2016 summer law intern class at Prudential for a 10-week internship at Prudential’s New Jersey offices, for a stipend of approximately $10,000.
The summer internship will provide interns with the opportunity to work with attorneys who support the broad reach of Prudential’s businesses. Other features of the summer internship program include:
The 1L summer internship will run for 10 weeks between June 6, 2016 and August 12, 2016. Summer interns will be paid a stipend of approximately $10,000, which shall accrue and be paid on an hourly basis.
Applicants must be members of National LGBT Bar Association, enrolled at an ABA-accredited law school, have successfully completed the first year of law school with a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent), be scheduled for graduation in spring 2018 (full-time students) or spring 2019 (part-time students). The ideal applicant will have financial or business-related experience or interest.
Interns not local to New Jersey will be responsible for their own housing and transportation to and from Prudential’s office in Newark New Jersey.

Our 1L Fellowship Program offers a unique summer employment opportunity for students who have just finished their first year of law school to gain valuable professional experience, mentoring and training early in their careers. We seek students who are committed to promoting inclusion and diversity in the legal profession and who also possess a long-term interest in practicing law in a global law firm.
We will consider the following factors when selecting the Latham & Watkins 1L Fellows:
1L Fellows will spend the first five or six weeks of the summer in one of our U.S. offices and the remaining portion of the 10-week program with one of our clients. 1L Fellows will also be invited to attend our second annual Diversity Leadership Academy in April 2016 and will be provided with other unique training and mentoring opportunities for the duration of their time in law school. Successful participants in the program will be invited to return to the firm, for a minimum of eight weeks, the following summer. Upon acceptance of the offer to return as a 2017 summer associate, participants will also receive a $10,000 scholarship through our 2L Diversity Scholars Program.

The Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) is excited to offer the LCLD Success in Law School Mentoring Program for first year students at the University Of Miami School of Law. LCLD believes that success in law school is the first step to a successful legal career. To support the success of diverse students in law school, LCLD is launching the 2015-2016 LCLD Success in Law School Mentoring Program in more than 30 cities around the country, including Miami. Participating mentees will be paired with an experienced lawyer in your city, from one of LCLD’s Member organizations.

The projects include a sophisticated appellate law practice, a comprehensive children’s rights program that handles school condition and discipline matters, special education cases, and adoptions, a community development team that supports affordable housing development and assists non-profit and small businesses with a variety of transactional needs, an immigrants’ rights group that does compelling asylum work on behalf of victims of torture and political persecution, a homelessness prevention unit that defends unlawful detainer complaints, advocates for welfare benefits, and eliminates outstanding tickets and warrants for persons at-risk of homelessness, and complex consumer fraud and impact litigation that addresses the injuries of individuals as well as systemic reform. Public Counsel’s 2016 summer internship program will run for ten weeks, commencing on May 31, 2016, and ending on August 5, 2016. Both 1L’s and 2L’s are eligible for these internships. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
Applications from 2L’s are currently being received and considered. Applications from 1L’s will not be accepted until December 1, 2015. If you are a 1L, please wait until December 1 to transmit your application.

It is helpful to describe in your cover letter the reasons for your interest in the project for which you are applying.
