Southeastern Intellectual Property Job Fair (SIPJF)

Georgia State University College of Law is hosting the 6th Annual Southeastern Intellectual Property Job Fair (SIPJF) on Tuesday, July 27, 2010, in Atlanta, Georgia. This is an excellent opportunity if you are interested in intellectual property law.  Students will be able to interview for positions in various areas of IP, including patent, trademark, trade secrets, and copyright law.

 To register for the Job Fair, please complete the following steps:

 (1)  Review the Employer List available on the CDO Student Portal to determine if you qualify for positions and are interested in submitting your résumé.

(2)   Review the  Student Instruction Checklist and complete the Participation Form (both available on the CDO Student Portal), which must be submitted to Karen Warren in the CDO on or before 5:00 p.m., Thursday, May 20th.  UM Law will pay your registration fee so please carefully consider if you are interested in attending this job fair.

(3)   Starting Wednesday, May 26th, you will be able to download instructions on how to upload your resume and bid on the participating employers.  See the Student Instruction Checklist for the webpage.

Judicial Clerkship Roundtable

Interested in Becoming a Judicial Clerk After Graduation?

Please join the CDO on Tuesday, April 20 at 5:30 p.m. in Room A110 for our Judicial Clerkship Roundtable discussion.  Judges, current and former law clerks, and 3Ls who have recently secured clerkships will discuss how & when to apply for clerkships, what judges look for in candidates and how to prepare for clerkships. We particularly recommend that all 2Ls who are interested in clerking after law school attend this important discussion. This will be an opportunity to sign up for the summer clerkship email list, and to learn about OSCAR, the online application system.

The Heartland Diversity Legal Job Fair Registration is Now Open

The Heartland Diversity Legal Job Fair (“HDLJF”) is a relatively new initiative designed by the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association’s Diversity and Managing Partner Committees. In 2005, the first annual HDLJF was held in Kansas City, Missouri. This job fair is unusual because law firms and legal organizations have come together to encourage students to make Kansas City their first choice.

This year, the job fair will take place on August  6-7, 2010.

Why Should You Attend?
In 2009, the HDLJF was host to nearly 100 students from over 40Law Schools from across the nation. Below are some statistics about past job fairs which we believe you will find very helpful:

  • 23 law firms and legal organizations conducted interviews at the job fair
  • On average, each students had at least 3 interviews

Who May Register

How to Register
Student Registration is now open. Email your full name, college/university name, your expected graduation date and a permanent email address.

Early Bird Registration
The early bird registration deadline is May 24, 2010. All registrations received on or before May 24th will be entered in the Early Bird drawing for a chance to win prizes. The drawing will take place during the Keynote Luncheon. You must be present at the Keynote Luncheon to win.

Hotel Room Reservations
The Job Fair will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Kansas City, Missouri. The HDLJF will have a limited number of hotel rooms at the Crowne Plaza Hotel reserved for students who reside more than 50 miles from Kansas City. Rooms will be $50, and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Room arrangements must be made through HDLJF and not directly with the hotel. The College of Workers’ Compensation Lawyers 2010 Writing Competition for Law Students

The College of Workers’ Compensation Lawyers 2010 Writing Competition for Law Students

Submissions are now being accepted for the 2010 College of Workers’ Compensation Lawyers Law Student Writing Competition.

TOPIC: The scope of permissible topics is broad, i.e., any aspect of workers’ compensation law.  Students are encouraged to present:

  • a public policy issue;
  • a critique of a leading case or doctrine; or
  • a comment on a statute or the need for a statutory modification.

ELIGIBILITY: All students currently enrolled in accredited law schools in the United States and all those recently graduated from them (graduation on or after May, 2009).

PRIZES:

First prize – $1,500.00                                               

Second prize – $1,000.00

Third prize – $500.00

The winner’s article will also be considered for publication in the Workers’ First Watch, The Workers’ Injury Law and Advocacy Group (WILG) magazine, or in a future issue of an appropriate ABA committee newsletter or journal.  The winner will also be invited (expenses paid) to the  Annual College Induction Dinner to be honored during the program.

 

The College of Workers’ Compensation Lawyers 2010 Law Student Writing Competition Rules

Articles must be original from the applicant, and limited to one entry.  Articles must not presently be under consideration for any other publication or written as part of paid employment.

All articles are to be submitted in the following format:

  • Submitted by email to cwcl@airmail.net (Please reference “Writing Competition” in the subject line.);
  • All articles are to be submitted by November 1, 2010;
  • Double-spaced,on 8 ½ inch by 11 inch paper, 1 inch margins;
  • Entries should be between 10 and 20 pages in length (including endnotes);
  • Citations are to conform to “A Uniform System of Citation” (The Bluebook).

If published by the College, the articles become the property of the College.  No submitted article may be published elsewhere until after announcement of the winners of the competition.  Announcement of the winners will be made at least 30 days in advance of the Annual College Induction Dinner, March 2011.

Include a cover letter with your entry stating your name, mailing address and phone number (both school and permanent), name of school and year of graduation.

Applicant must be currently enrolled in an accredited law school or submit entry within 60 days of graduation.

Judging

The evaluation standards will be organization, quality of research, depth, originality of analysis, clarity of style and readability.  The College reserves the right not to award and/or to reject any or all submissions.
