Twelfth Annual Informational Career Fair

ATTENTION ALL LAW STUDENTS!

 

Career choices keeping you up at night?  Get the answers you’ve been looking for at this year’s Informational Career Fair.  Take this opportunity to speak with attorneys practicing in different areas of law about how they got started in their fields and what it’s like to practice law on a day-to-day basis.  The fair will include attorneys working in small, midsize and large firms; public interest organizations; government agencies; the judiciary; and multinational corporations in a variety of practice areas, including antitrust, class action litigation, commercial litigation, corporate, criminal defense, criminal prosecution, entertainment, immigration, in-house, insurance litigation, intellectual property (including patent law), international, labor and employment, media, military, municipal, probate and estate planning, public interest law, real estate, securities and tax.

2010 Loyola Patent Law Interview Program

Loyola University Chicago School of Law is hosting the 2010 Annual Patent Law Interview Program on Thursday, July 29 and Friday, July 30 in Chicago, Illinois.  This is a nationwide interview program that targets patent law employers and rising second and third-year J.D. students with engineering and/or technical science academic backgrounds.

If you have an undergraduate or graduate degree in engineering or a technical science and are interested in patent law, you may want to consider registering for the program.  This program gives qualified law students the opportunity to interview with patent law firms, as well as law firms, corporations and government agencies with patent law departments.  Please note that students do not need to be patent bar eligible to register for the Patent Law Interview Program.  However, many employers make patent bar eligibility a requirement for bidding, and most employers prefer patent bar eligible students. 

Student Registration

Student registration will be handled online this year.  Student registration will open on Monday, February 15 and close on Monday, March 8.  To register, please visit the program website at http://www.luc.edu/law/career/patent_students.html.  At this stage of registration, you will only need to enter some basic information (you will upload your resume and bid on interviews later in the semester).  Please note that our school is listed alphabetically as the University of Miami School of Law on the registration form’s drop down menu of law schools.  We will be paying the $35 registration fee for our students, so you will not be charged anything when you register online.

Florida Supreme Court Internship Program for Distinguished Florida Law Students

Applications are now being accepted for the Florida Supreme Court Internship Program for Distinguished Florida Law Students for summer 2010 (open to 1Ls and 2Ls).  Interns are selected from all accredited Florida law schools. Participants in this program will function as law clerks to an individual justice, a central staff law clerk working for all of the justices, or a law clerk working for the clerk of the court and the administrative justice.  Duties will include: reviewing and making recommendations on petitions for discretionary review, attorney discipline matters, and extraordinary writ petitions; and conducting legal research and preparing memoranda on pending cases.  Interns will have the opportunity to attend oral argument, discuss cases with staff attorneys and the assigned justices, and assist in the drafting of orders and opinions.  Interns will also attend special lectures, group discussions and training sessions.  Interns will be awarded a certificate of recognition upon successful completion of the program. The Summer 2010 program will begin with orientation on Monday, May 17, 2010 and the term will end on Friday, July 9, 2010.  Students are entitled to receive up to 6 course credits for participation in this program.

Applications are available in the Career Development Office, Room A112. The deadline to submit applications to Dean Marcy Cox (Career Development Office, Rm. A112) is Monday, February 22nd at 5:00 p.m.

 

An informational meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 16th at 12:30 p.m. in Room 108.

Apellate Court Internships for Summer 2010

Judges on the First Circuit Court of Appeal in Tallahassee are seeking judicial interns for the summer.

Interested students should submit the following application materials:

  • Cover letter
  • Resume
  • Writing Sample
  • Transcript
  • 3 letters of recommendation

In order to be eligible, students must complete a course in Evidence before the start of the internship.  The internships are limited to 2L (or rising 3L) students.

Florida Bar Solo and Small Firm Interview Program

The General Practice, Solo and Small Firm Section of the Florida Bar cordially invites all law students to participate in the 2010 Solo and Small Firm Interview Program, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 27, 2010 from 12-2 p.m. in Orlando, Florida. Applicants will be interviewed for entry-level associate positions, summer 2010 clerkships, part-time research and writing positions and project-based legal work. Registration for the Interview Program will run from noon on February 17 to noon on February 23, 2010. Registration forms will be available in the Career Development Office and in the Student Portal beginning on February 17. A Student Information Sheet containing more detailed information on the Interview Program is currently available on the Student Portal.

The Interview Program is one component of the Solo and Small Firm Annual Conference and students also are encouraged to participate in the Conference, which begins on Friday, March 26 and ends with the Interview Program on the 27th. The full-time law student reduced rate is $50. The schedule and registration form for the Conference are available on the Student Portal.
