Women’s Link Has Internship Opportunities Abroad

Women’s Link was founded in 2001. They have regional offices in Europe (Madrid, Spain) and Latin America (Bogotá, Colombia) and are a bilingual organization, working in both English and Spanish in many different parts of the world.

Women’s Link Worldwide is an international human rights non-profit organization working to ensure that gender equality is a reality around the world. Women’s Link has an internship program where students can apply either for the Madrid or Bogotá offices. For more information about that program, please visit the website.

Additionally , the Gender Justice Observatory (GJO) offers students the possibility of long distance collaborations. One of the main projects of the GJO is the free on-line case-law data base which includes commented summaries of the cases. Students could work by doing research on case-law by country, jurisdiction or subject matter or by doing the summaries of selected decisions. This work is a great learning experience that gives the opportunity to come into contact with different case-law produced in very different contexts and also with the practice of law.

Pace Law School’s “New Direction for Attorneys” Program-Upcoming Session

Attorneys step aside from the legal profession for a variety of reasons and subsequently many decide to resume the practice of law. Some attorneys, although licensed, choose to pursue careers other than law and/or have never practiced. Pace School of Law, with support and assistance from the Westchester Women’s Bar Association, has developed a unique and innovative program, New Directions for Attorneys, designed to provide lawyers re-entering the legal marketplace with knowledge of substantive law, professional legal skills, and practical legal experience that will enhance their chances of success either as practicing attorneys or attorneys pursuing alternative non-legal careers. This part-time five month long program includes numerous components to support individuals in their re-entry efforts.

New Directions is a comprehensive program consisting of a diverse curriculum of substantive law covering a wide range of practice areas, training in practical legal skills, career-related workshops, and the opportunity to obtain an externship with an organization that provides supervised practical experience and mentoring.

Program Legal Group, Office for Civil Rights, Department of Education is Hiring Attorney

The Office for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Education is hiring one or more General Attorneys for its Program Legal Group. Applications will be accepted through August 3. Santa Clara University School of Law Seeks Assistant Dean of Enrollment Management

The Assistant Dean will develop and implement a long-term enrollment management strategic plan for theSchool of Law, in keeping with the law school’s strategic plan and direction from the Dean, to promote and advance the law school’s goals. The Assistant Dean will lead and manage the Office of Enrollment Management, which encompasses Law Admissions and Law Financial Aid, with the objective of annually enrolling a broadly diverse and highly talented JD cohort of full and part-time students. In carrying out these responsibilities, the Assistant Dean provides leadership to the full array of law school efforts to achieve enrollment goals, including the design and development of strategic initiatives in response to national trends in law school application and enrollment. Call for Application Submissions for the Planning & Law Division, Daniel J. Curtin, Jr. Fellowship 2012-13

The Program:

The Planning and Law Division (“PLD”) of the American Planning Association (“APA”) serves those who seek to understand the diverse legal issues that affect the planning profession. The legal issues underlying the planning of cities and communities are important and essential components in the education and training of those who would become professional planners and land use practitioners. The purpose of the PLD Daniel J. Curtin, Jr. Fellowship Program (“Fellowship Program”) is to foster increased interest in the study of land use planning and its interrelationship with the law at the advanced undergraduate, graduate, and law school levels. This will provide increased participation in the planning profession, and ultimately, greater service to communities across the nation. The Fellowship Program is open to third and fourth year undergraduate students, first and second year master’s degree students, and first and second year law students. One fellowship with a stipend of $3,000 is awarded per academic year. The stipend includes a $2,000 award and a $1,000 APA membership and Annual Conference stipend. The term of the fellowship is approximately ten months (the typical length of two semesters or three quarters) and will include approximately 100 to 200 total hours of work. The fellow will conduct his/her fellowship duties remotely, i.e., from where they live or attend school.

Fellowship Responsibilities & Benefits:

If selected for an award by the PLD Fellowship Committee, the fellow’s responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, assisting the PLD with preparing and conducting its annual membership survey, assisting the editor of the PLD Newsletter (published quarterly), preparing articles for publication in the PLD Newsletter, serving as a Continuing Legal Education (“CLE”) liaison between the APA and various states for the provision of CLE credits to its members, and assisting with the solicitation and review of session proposals submitted by PLD members for the annual National APA Conference. Fellowship benefits include contact with a network of nationally recognized leaders in the field; access to newsletters, webinars, educational sessions and online resources featuring current legal issues and trends relevant to planning; participation in planning and law networking events; and opportunities for leadership and volunteerism in the planning and law field.

Application Requirements:

Applicants for the Fellowship Program shall complete an application form and shall submit all of the following:

  • a two- to three-page personal and background statement written by the student, describing their interest in a career in      planning and the law, and describing what impact the student wants to make in the planning and law field.
  • one letter of recommendation in support of the student’s application and career goals;
  • official transcripts of current course of study – to be requested by student with adequate time for receipt by the PLD Fellowship Program Administrator no later than September 14, 2012;
  • a resume of work experience and background;
  • verification of student enrollment (for current students) or a copy of an acceptance letter from a PAB accredited graduate planning school or a law school (for incoming students); and
  • the student’s signature on the application form.

Deadline:

The application submittal deadline for the Fellowship Program is September 14, 2012. All original application information must be received in the PLD Fellowship Program Administrator by that date. If forwarded via FED-EX or similar courier service the delivery must be made to PLD by September 14, 2012. Faxed or electronic documents will not be accepted. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed by the Committee.

Miami Law’s Legal Corps Program Selected as Finalist in the Human Rights Category for the CLASSY Awards

Miami Law’s Legal Corps program has been selected as one of five finalists in the human rights category for the Southern region for the CLASSY Awards. Now in its fourth year, the CLASSY Awards is the largest philanthropic award ceremony in the country and the event celebrates the greatest charitable achievements by nonprofit organizations, socially conscious businesses, and individuals worldwide.

The Miami Law Legal Corps is an ambitious postgraduate fellowship program that places recent law graduates in public sector organizations globally. To date, 148 fellows have participated in the program and 104 fellows have been hired by their host organizations or have found outside employment since participating in the program.
