Boston College Law School Seeks Associate Director, Employer Outreach

Job Description:

The Associate Director, Employer Outreach will develop a strategic outreach plan to strengthen existing and develop targeted relationships with public and private employers in the legal and business sectors to increase short-term and permanent employment opportunities for JD students and recent graduates.  The Associate Director will collaborate with the counseling team on various programming and training efforts and otherwise feed market intelligence into the efforts of the law school.  The Associate Director reports to the Assistant Dean, Career Services.

Requirements:

  • minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business or a related field
  • minimum of four years of related outreach and relationship management experience to include sales, marketing, advancement and/or recruiting experience
  • advanced knowledge and a high level of comfort with Excel, online research, resources and social media including LinkedIn and the ability to develop various databases
  • must have flexibility to work hours outside of normal business hours to meet office needs
  • local and national travel required

Preferred:

  • JD from an accredited law school is strongly preferred
  • Previous recruiting/sourcing experience in a law firm is a plus
  • Preference for candidates with significant experience analyzing and interpreting data to drive strategyreference will be given to candidates with significant work experience as an attorney and prior experience in a career services department of a law school or university, in a legal or corporate recruitment setting or in development and/or marketing

Clinical Teaching Fellowship – Refugee & Human Rights Clinic, UC Hastings

The Refugee and Human Rights Clinic (RHRC), in collaboration with the Center for Gender & Refugee Studies (CGRS), at U.C. Hastings is seeking applications for a two-year teaching fellowship (July 2015-June 2017). The fellowship provides the opportunity to learn how to teach law in a clinical setting. The fellow will work under the supervision of the RHRC Director, Karen Musalo, and will share in the full-range of responsibilities of teaching the RHRC, including co-teaching the clinic seminar, and supervising the clinic students’ work.

Requirements for candidates: 

  • Experience in asylum and immigration law (experience in human rights law is a plus, but not
  • required)
  • Excellent academic record
  • Two to five years minimum practice experience, including some direct representation
  • Admission to a State bar
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills
  • Aptitude for student supervision
  • Prior teaching experience is a plus; and
  • Bilingual ability in Spanish is desirable

Salary and benefits:

The Fellow will receive a salary of $52,000 per year, with full benefits, which includes health, dental and vision care insurance plans.

Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Professional and Career Development, the successful candidate will assist law students with their professional development through career counseling, employer development and professional skills training. Will work collaboratively with the PCD team to prepare students for 21st century practice, assisting students to obtain internships and post-graduate employment. Applicants whose experience is in public interest and/or government are strongly encouraged to apply. Where appropriate, the successful applicant may be tasked with administering the Law School’s Pro Bono Program.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide student-centered comprehensive career counseling, both individually and through workshops and related programming; such services will include individually tailored career and professional development counseling, resume and cover letter writing, and interview preparation.
  • Assist in the development of PD curricula and programming designed to provide students with training in 21st century competencies required for modern practice.
  • Maintain and expand experiential training opportunities for students through internship programs, on-campus interviewing and other coordinated recruiting programs and job fairs.
  • Assist with employer cultivation and marketing of the Suffolk University Law School, its students and programs.
  • Serve as a liaison to law student groups and bar associations.
  • Assist the Assistant Dean for Professional and Career Development on various projects.

 Requirements:

  • J. D. required.
  • A minimum of three years government and public interest law practice or advising, or corporate law, or law practice technology and innovation experience a plus. Counseling experience is helpful.
  • Ability to work independently and to exercise considerable judgment and discretion on matters pertaining to the career development office a must.
  • Excellent communication skills to establish and cultivate rapport with students, alumni and employers, necessary.
  • Must be a team-player, possess eagerness to initiate new projects and ability to set priorities and employ time management.
  • Strong computer literacy.

The Chair’s Attorney Honors Program is a highly selective program that allows students to begin work as Law Clerks after graduation and before they pass the bar.  Upon being admitted to a state bar association, Law Clerks are eligible to be converted to Attorney positions.  This program is designed for third year law students, LL.M. students, joint degree JD/graduate students and those selected for a judicial clerkship as a means to secure future employment with the SEC.

You are eligible to apply for the Chair’s Attorney Honors Program if you are a law student who will graduate between October 1, 2014, and September 30, 2015; or you are a joint degree law student who will complete all academic requirements for both degrees and graduate from both programs between October 1, 2014, and September 30, 2015; or if you have been selected for, but have not started working at, a judicial clerkship.

2014 North American Entertainment, Sports, and Intellectual Property Law Summit; Akerman Senterfitt Student Scholarship Application; Scholarship Description and Instructions

The 26th Annual North American Entertainment, Sports, and Intellectual Property Law Summit will take place November 12-16, 2014 in Liberia, Costa Rica. The Akerman Senterfitt Student Scholarship provides a partial scholarship to three (3) law students attending the Summit in an amount of no less than $1000 per recipient. The scholarship funds awarded to each student will be deducted from Summit travel expenses.

All applicants must have completed at least the first year of study at their respective law school.

Scholarships are awarded on criteria as the Summit Board sees fit including, but not limited to, the following:

  1. A strong interest in entertainment, sports, and/or intellectual property law, including the applicant’s participation in their school’s Sports, IP, and/or Entertainment Society (if applicable).
  2. All application questions must be answered.
  3. Grades are considered if and when the Board deems necessary.
  4. All applicants must attach a resume, cover letter, and transcript.
All applications must be received at the following address no later than August 25, 2014. Time is of the essence. Late applications will not be considered.
