About FFSC:
The mission of the Fair Food Standards Council (FFSC) is to monitor the development of a sustainable agricultural industry that advances both the human rights of farmworkers and the long-term interests of growers through implementation of the Fair Food Program (FFP), a unique worker-led, market-driven social responsibility program which emerged from the Coalition of Immokalee Workers’ successful Campaign for Fair Food. The FFP has become the gold standard for social responsibility in US agriculture, recognized by longtime labor and human rights observers as “the best workplace monitoring program in the US” and “one of the great human rights success stories of our day.”
About the Position:
Attorneys make findings of fact and apply the Fair Food Code of Conduct to those facts, draft comprehensive reports, negotiate corrective action plans; carry out complaint intake, investigation and resolution through negotiation or formal decision drafting; conduct legal research; prepare memoranda of law on issues affecting farmworker rights; and make presentations to staff and director, as well as the public.
FFSC is based in Sarasota, FL, with work-related travel throughout the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic. Salary and benefits are competitive within the non-profit sector.

Hosted by NBA/NCBJ Committee, Terranova Corporation, Kozyak Tropin & Throckmorton, the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges attracts several thousand bankruptcy judges and lawyers to its annual conference.
Law students interested in careers in bankruptcy and/or related areas are welcomed and encouraged to attend. However, this is a good opportunity for law students, and not just those who have a known interest in bankruptcy. This is an area of law that covers many areas, including commercial litigation, real estate, corporate law, landlord tenant, consumer issues, banking, etc. The students who attend will have an opportunity to meet several judges and lawyers. It is totally free also.

Eligibility Rules:
Submissions must be original works of publishable quality written by a student currently enrolled full- or part-time in a law school in the United States. All submissions must comply with the Harvard Law Review Association’s Bluebook Uniform System of Citation (19th ed.). There is no page limit for entries, although, as an informal guide, a word count of between 8,000 to 14,000 words is suggested.
Deadline/Method of Submission:
Articles must be received by 5:00 p.m. (PST) on January 15, 2016. Articles must be submitted, by email, in both Microsoft Word and PDF formats in Times New Roman 12-point font, double-spaced. Citations should be included in footnotes. Articles may include headings and subheadings. Please email all articles. You will be notified via email when your submission is received.
Award:
The first place winner will receive a $3,000 cash prize. The second place winner will receive a $2,000 cash prize and the third place winner will receive a $1,000 cash prize. The Program for Judicial Awareness will work with the first place winner to find a law journal to publish the winning article. The winner will also be recognized at the Annual Pacific Legal Foundation Gala. PLF will pay for the winner’s reasonable travel costs to attend the gala.

The 27th Annual North American Entertainment, Sports, and Intellectual Property Law Summit will take place November 11-15, 2015 in Cancun, Mexico. The Akerman Student Scholarship provides a partial scholarship to three (3) law students attending the Summit in an amount of no less than $1000 per recipient. The scholarship funds awarded to each student will be deducted from Summit travel expenses.
Scholarship Description and Instructions:
1) The Akerman Student Scholarship provides a partial scholarship to law students attending the 2015 North American Entertainment, Sports, and Intellectual Property Law Summit. Partial scholarships in an amount not less than $1,000 are awarded to three (3) law students. Scholarship funds will be deducted from Summit travel expenses.
2) All applicants must have completed at least the first year of study at their respective law school.

The Equal Justice Works annual Conference and Career Fair is the largest public interest career fair in the country. The Conference and Career Fair provides access to job opportunities for law students; connects employers with talented attorneys and law students; and offers a multitude of skill-building and career advising sessions with experts from around the country.
The 2015 Conference and Career Fair will take place on Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, Virginia.

For over 40 years, the University of Wisconsin’s William H. Hastie Fellowship Program has provided an opportunity for lawyers of color to prepare for a career in law teaching. The Hastie Fellowship is customarily a two-year program, leading to an LL.M. degree. Candidates pursue a scholarly interest of their choice and are encouraged both to pursue publishable research for their thesis and to demonstrate a capacity to contribute as a scholar to legal studies. The University of Wisconsin established the Hastie Fellowship in 1973. It honors William H. Hastie (1904-1976), a lawyer, teacher, jurist, and civil rights advocate who championed the importance of high-quality legal education. University of Wisconsin Law School Professor James E. Jones, Jr., now professor emeritus, well-known as a leading expert in labor law and as the architect of several significant programs aimed at achieving greater racial equality in the work force, was a moving force in creating this program.
The Program:
The Hastie Fellowship Program encourages scholarship in the full range of law studies, including law as related to minorities. The strong Wisconsin tradition for studies of the law in action and for interdisciplinary work creates a particularly supportive atmosphere for those with these interests. Candidates are encouraged to take full advantage of long-established ties between the law faculty and faculty in other disciplines, and they will have easy access to the vast resources of the entire University. Each Hastie fellow, before beginning work, establishes a relationship with a faculty member who will serve as the fellow’s principal research advisor, guiding the fellow’s research project. Additional faculty are likely to assist as well. Highest priority is attached to the production of an LL.M. thesis that meets the requirements of the Graduate Committee of the Law School. Most fellows base one or more articles on the thesis. Ideally one article should be ready for submission prior to completion of the program. The thesis work has proven of great value to Hastie Fellows in demonstrating scholarly ability to prospective employers. Another important aspect of the Hastie Fellowship Program is to help each fellow develop strong teaching skills. Throughout the Fellowship, fellows are teamed with teachers covering subjects of interest to the fellow. This allows the fellow to observe and assist in teaching. Whenever possible, in the final semester of the program, the Hastie fellow will have the opportunity to teach a course or seminar in an area of interest to the fellow. Fellows are encouraged to become involved in the life of the law school by attending colloquia, faculty meetings, and social gatherings; engaging with the many scholars and public officials who visit at the school each year; participating in student-sponsored activities; and simply joining in the oftentimes rich exchanges that occur over lunch or morning coffee. The Hastie fellow is treated more as a junior colleague than as a graduate student.
Fellowship Term:
The term and internal sequence of the Hastie program are designed to accommodate the need for intensive research and writing, participation in the hiring process of law schools, and gaining some teaching experience. Hastie fellows will be appointed for a term of usually two years. During the term of the appointment, fellows are required to be in residence in Madison and enrolled in the Law School, with a commitment to participating fully in the life of the law school. Applications for the program are solicited in the fall of each year. (Application information is given below.) The first year of the program is devoted primarily to work on the thesis. By the fall of the second year, it is expected that Hastie fellows will be sufficiently advanced in their research to enable them, as they seek law school faculty appointments, to submit their draft materials and make oral presentations based on their work. The final semester in residence focuses on providing, whenever possible, a teaching experience and finishing work on the thesis or publication derived from it.
