Free Bankruptcy Seminar for Attorneys (CLE Credit Available)

Interested in bankruptcy law or want to get involved in pro bono matters?  Dade Legal Aid/Put Something Back cordially invites you to attend their bankruptcy basics seminar titled “Who What How Why & Where of Bankruptcy” taking place next Friday, March 25th, 2011, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the Claude Pepper Federal Building, 51 SW 1st Avenue, first floor.

This basic seminar is geared towards attorneys who may be interested in learning more about bankruptcy practice, but do not have a bankruptcy background or do not yet have much experience.  The seminar features a distinguished panel of judges and professionals and the event is FREE for all attorneys who are willing to take on a pro-bono bankruptcy case (note: attorneys must be licensed to practice in the Southern District of Florida).  Participants also receive 4.0 CLE Credits (including 0.5 Ethics).

Features interactive presentations given by experienced criminal defense attorneys on important topics such as: Discovery/Procedural Rules, Pre-Trial Motions (including Motions to Suppress), Jury Selection in a Criminal Case, Elements of Misdemeanor Crimes/Making Judgment of Acquittal Arguments, Preserving the Record for Appeal, and Ethical Considerations for Criminal Defense Attorneys.

Summer Dispute Resolution Institute (SDR) at Capital University Law School

This summer, Capital University Law School will be offering the Summer Dispute Resolution Institute (SDR) and some of these courses may be of interest to your students.  This is the third summer we have offered SDR and we are excited about the unique opportunity it provides to law students to gain practical skills in this rapidly growing field.

SDR is designed to meet the needs of law students seeking to accelerate their study of law in the summer.  SDR consists of 10 different week long courses. Law students can select to take one or more of the course offerings in the areas of negotiation, mediation, arbitration and dispute resolution. The courses are taught by nationally recognized ADR faculty and practitioners.

Dispute Resolution (2 credits) – July 11-15, 8 am-1:10 pm

Labor & Employment Arbitration (2 credits) – July 11-15, Noon-5:10 pm

Law Student Good Works Competition, Sponsored by the ABA Section of Litigation

The ABA Section of Litigation launched its Law Student Good Works Competition on the Section’s Facebook page. The Competition asks law students to create the Section’s next Good Works project.  It offers a Grand Prize of $10,000 seed money from the Section to implement the project, along with a $2,500 cash prize, a trip to Laguna Niguel and a year’s worth of mentorship by a Section leader and committee to be assigned to the project.
