FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION 2014 HONORS INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

The 2014 Honors Internship Program will begin on June 1, 2014 and end on August 9, 2014. The application will be open from January 29 through February 4, 2014.

FBI Honors Internship Overview:

In 2014, outstanding undergraduate and graduate students will be selected to participate in the FBI Honors Internship Program. This paid internship offers students an exciting ‘insider’s view’ of FBI operations and provides professional experience that is unique, valuable, and marketable.

Internship Qualifications:

A candidate selected to participate in the Honors Internship Program:

  • Must be A U.S. citizen
  • Must be attending a college or university that is accredited by one of the regional or national institutional associations recognized by the United States Secretary of Education
  • Must be classified as an undergraduate (second semester Freshman or higher), graduate, or post-graduate student enrolled full-time at the time of application
  • Must have at the time of application and maintain throughout the program a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale and be in good standing with their academic institution
  • Must be able to meet all FBI employment requirements as well as be able to pass an FBI Background Investigation and receive a Top Secret Security Clearance

The Honors Internship Experience:

Honors Internship Program participants work side by side with Special Agents and Professional Staff. During the experience, interns will:

  • Work for 10 weeks in field offices nationwide and in FBI Headquarters divisions located in Quantico, Virginia; Winchester, Virginia; Clarksburg, West Virginia; and in the Washington, DC metropolitan area
  • Obtain a Top Secret Security Clearance
  • Gain insight into the full range of FBI careers, with the opportunity to explore FBI careers after graduation
  • Participate in a variety of organizational challenges and investigative matters that are vital to the FBI’s mission
  • Have an opportunity to work throughout the year at field offices or in FBI Headquarters divisions

Suffolk Law’s Housing Discrimination Testing Program Seeks Clinical Fellow

Suffolk University Law School Clinical Programs, in conjunction with the Boston Fair Housing Commission, is seeking to hire a full-time clinical fellow to work in the Clinical Program’s Housing Discrimination Testing Program (“HDTP”).  The position is a one-year grant funded position, with the possibility of extension depending on future funding. The Clinical Fellow will be part of the HDTP team with Professor Bill Berman and Clinical Fellow Jamie Langowski.

Specific duties include: coordination of housing discrimination tests, litigation of fair housing cases, and engagement in policy work related to housing discrimination.

Institute for Justice – Public Interest Boot Camp for Law Students

The Institute for Justice, the national law firm for liberty, is excited to announce their Public Interest Boot Camp this summer, July 25-27, in Arlington, Virginia.  The law student conference brings together 40 top students from across the country.  Learn how to use the law as a force for freedom, meet like-minded students and discuss cases like Kelo v. City of New London, McComish v. Bennett, and Zelman v. Simmons-Harris with the attorneys who helped litigate them.

You will also hear a keynote from a distinguished jurist and lectures by noted Georgetown University Law School professor Randy Barnett, George Mason University School of Law professor Todd Zywicki and Cato Institute scholar Roger Pilon.

CHCI is seeking to offer exceptional Latino college graduates with a background in Law unparalleled exposure to a professional experience in the public policy arenas while participating in CHCI’s nationally acclaimed leadership development training program. CHCI Law Graduate Fellows also have the opportunity to publish a policy paper and develop/execute a policy summit. 

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must have been awarded a Juris Doctor prior to the program start date High academic achievement (3.0 GPA or higher)
  • Evidence of leadership skills and potential for leadership growth
  • Demonstrates commitment to public service-oriented activities
  • Superior analytical skills, outstanding oral and written communication skills
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, asylees or individuals who are lawfully authorized to work full-time without restriction for any U.S. employer and who, at the time of application, possess lawful evidence of employment authorization.

NOTE: Individuals who are seeking consideration under the “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival” (DACA) policy must possess an Employment Authorization Document at the time of application.

Selection Process: 

The selection process is competitive; CHCI receives five applications for every one available fellowship. CHCI processes applications to identify the most qualified candidates. Applications are reviewed by a selection committee composed by Alumni, Board of Directors, and CHCI staff. Only top candidates receive an invitation for an interview. A selected number of fellows are selected annually, based on the quality of their application and their interview scores.

National LGBT Bar Association 2014 2L Summer Law Clerk Program Liberty Mutual Insurance Group – A Fortune 100 Company!

The National LGBT Bar Association is pleased to partner with The Liberty Mutual Insurance Group Legal Department to provide an exciting opportunity for two enthusiastic 2L law students who are interested in making an immediate and valued contribution. As a Law Clerk you will provide technical support to staff litigation attorneys, perform legal research and assist in drafting and filing legal trial documents. The National LGBT Bar Association and Liberty Mutual will select one Law Clerk for Liberty’s Boston litigation office and one for its San Francisco litigation office for a 10-week clerkship offering competitive pay.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs legal research utilizing both written and electronic sources
  • Assists attorneys in brief and opinion writing
  • Prepares draft memos
  • Gathers and compiles facts and relevant case information
  • Drafts pleadings and motions
  • Assists attorneys in preparing for depositions and trials

Qualifications:

  • Member of the National LGBT Bar Association
  • Completed two years at an ABA accredited law school; graduation scheduled for spring 2016

PRUDENTIAL FINANCIAL, INC. 2014 1L SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

The American Bar Association’s (ABA) Commission on Disability Rights is pleased to partner with Prudential Financial, Inc. (Prudential) to provide a meaningful summer internship opportunity to a highly motivated first-year law student with a disability.  Through this partnership, the Commission will select a law student with a disability to join Prudential’s 2014 summer law intern class in the New Jersey tri-state area.  The internship runs between June 2 and August 8, 2014.  The intern will be paid a stipend of approximately $10,000, which shall accrue and be paid on an hourly basis.

Responsibilities

The intern will have the opportunity to work with attorneys who support the broad reach of the Prudential businesses.  He or she may also have an opportunity to practice interviewing skills, prepare presentations, and shadow attorneys on various projects.  In addition, the intern will participate in the summer intern training program, which includes presentations by Prudential attorneys that highlight different areas of the business and the legal department.  Of particular note, the intern will be paired with an attorney-mentor, who will provide guidance on projects.

Qualifications 

Applicants must be:  (1) law students with a disability; (2) ABA members; and (3) enrolled at an ABA-accredited law school.  In addition, they must have:  (1) successfully completed the first year of law school and be scheduled for graduation in spring 2016 (full-time students) or spring 2017 (part-time students) and (2) a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent.  The ideal applicant will have financial or business-related experience or interest.

The 2014 IADC Legal Writing Contest

All J.D. candidates currently enrolled in accredited law schools are eligible to participate in the IADC Legal Writing Contest. Entrants must write on subjects in the fields of tort law, insurance law, civil procedure, evidence or other areas of the law of practical concern to lawyers engaged in the defense or management of the defense of civil litigation. The contest is judged by a committee of the IADC.

General criteria: Entries must be the original work of a single author, not previously published, and must cover the fields of tort law, insurance law, civil procedure, evidence, or other areas of practical concern to lawyers engaged in the defense or management of the defense of civil litigation.

Deadline: May 16, 2014

Amount of award: $2,000 for first place; $1,000 for second place; and $500 for third place.
