University of San Diego School of Law is seeking an Assistant Director of Career & Professional Development to focus primarily on employment reporting with some advising and other duties.

Job Description:

Manage graduate and student data collection and reporting together with Assistant Dean.  Advise J.D. and LL.M students and alumni on legal careers and law clerk and post-graduate job opportunities.  Develop career-search resource and tools and programs   Design, create and present programs and projects in response to dynamic legal employment market.  Manage relationships with student groups and outside constituents to design and initiate programs and projects.

Works under the general guidance of Assistant Dean for Career & Professional Development of the Law School.  Provides direction and oversight to staff and student workers on relevant projects and assignments, as needed.

  • Statistical Collection, Recordkeeping, Reporting
  • Career Advising and Programs
  • External Relations and Management
  • Management of Recruitment Programs
  • Other Duties, As Assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Juris Doctor strongly preferred.
  • At least three years of work experience in the legal profession, education administration, student services, recruiting or a related field required.
  • One year of counseling experience in a student-oriented (customer-service) setting preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills in Excel and/or database management and Word.
  • Demonstrated ability to address issues raised by a large, diverse student body, along with the ability to successfully interact with various populations including students, faculty, administrators, employers and colleagues at other institutions.
  • Strong understanding of career development issues affecting law students, lawyers, and the legal profession.
  • Ability to develop related programs and materials.
  • Knowledge of legal career employment opportunities and local, regional and national job markets.
  • Ability to develop marketing strategies to enhance employment opportunities.
  • Skill in use of computer software and web-based legal employer and job search programs.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.

Hours: 37.5 per week; 8:30 am – 5:00 pm Monday thru Friday.

Requires occasional late evenings when programs and events occur, and during extended office hours at peak times.
