AFL-CIO Organizing Institute Career Training Announcement

The AFL-CIO Organizing Institute matches recent college graduates and graduating seniors interested in careers in social and economic justice with AFL-CIO affiliate-unions looking to hire individuals enthusiastic about assisting workers gain respect and dignity in their workplace. They also work with individual unions to assist with their recruitment and hiring needs of union organizers.

They look to recruit, train and place passionate individuals into careers as union organizers to work with AFL-CIO affiliate unions. The OI will direct a 3-day union organizer training in Atlanta February 8-10th 2013. During this 3 day training, participants will learn union organizing basics such as one-on-one communication skills, as well as campaign and strategic planning skills. Applicants selected from this training will be placed into a 12-week, paid ($500/weekly stipend minus taxes) Field Training Program as an apprentice with an AFL-CIO affiliate union. Transportation, health insurance and housing, if necessary, are provided during the apprenticeship. Trainees who successfully complete the field training program will be offered a full-time position as a union organizer with an affiliate union. Salaries start at $35,000-$40,000 per year for entry level organizers, plus excellent benefits.
