Department of State is Hiring Diplomatic Security Special Agents

The Department of State is hiring – Diplomatic Security Special Agents (known overseas as Regional Security Officers – Foreign Service Specialists)

The Department of State is accepting applications for Foreign Service Diplomatic Security Special Agent positions.

Special Agents (SA) are sworn federal law enforcement officers who are responsible for the security of Foreign Service personnel, property and sensitive information throughout the world. Major activities include protective services, management of security programs for Foreign Service posts, criminal investigations, and background investigations, in addition to administrative, training, and liaison functions.  Special Agent applicants must be U.S. citizens and must have a bachelor’s degree at the time of appointment.  Candidates must be within nine months of receiving their Bachelor’s degree in order to apply, specifically, they must receive their degree prior to July 22, 2010 (exceptions cannot be granted). Special Agent candidates must be appointed prior to their 37th birthday.

Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) Program

Presidential Management Fellows Program 

ATTENTION 3Ls and LLMs 

The 2009-2010 Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) Program application season will open on Thursday, October 1.   The PMF Program offers paid two-year federal government fellowships to graduate students interested in the public sector.  More than 80 Federal agencies recruit through this program and offer positions in public policy and administration, domestic or international issues, information technology, human resources, engineering, health and medical sciences, law (very limited), financial management, and many other fields in support of public service programs.

PMF Application Open Period: 

Thursday, October 1 – Thursday, October 15, 2009

 How to Apply:

Applicants must (1) complete an online application, (2) link a USAJOBS resume, and (3) submit a Nomination form and Statement of Interest to their school’s Nomination Official, Karen Warren at the Career Development Office, by 5:00 p.m. Friday, October 16.

•        Applicants apply online using USAJOBS at www.USAJOBS.gov or via a link from the PMF website’s “How to Apply/PMF Application”            https://www.pmf.opm.gov/HApplication.aspx.

•       During the application process, applicants will be required to link their online resume, complete an online qualifications questionnaire, and print the PMF Nomination Form (OPM Form 1300) for the nomination process.  On-line application deadline is Thursday, October 15.

•        The Statement of Interest should describe your objectives and motivation in seeking  a PMF fellowship.  Statement of Interest and Nomination Form are submitted to  Karen Warren in the CDO on or before 5:00 p.m. Friday, October 16.

Missed our Small Firm Panel presentation on September 16?  You can now hear that presentation which featured hiring partners and associates from small firms in South Florida as well as a member of the Florida Bar General Practice Solo and Small Firm Section.

You may access the podcast file here 24/7 with any computer and connection to the internet.

You may need to copy and paste the link into a browser window.  You can use Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox.  You will need to have the Adobe Flash Player plug in installed.  (If you can view YouTube videos, you should be fine.)

Learn about the various opportunities offered by the State Department.  Presented by the Department of State Diplomat in Residence, Hilarion “Lari” Martinez

Speed Networking Event, 6:00 p.m., Student Lounge

During this event, participants can refine professional networking skills and forge connections, while gathering information about the legal profession.  Speed Networking is a way to help avoid first-impression networking nightmares, while getting to know area practicing attorneys at the same time.   Participating attorneys include those at large and small firms as well as government agencies and public interest organizations.

Florida Supreme Court Internship Program for Distinguished Florida Law Students

Each semester and summer, Florida law students have the opportunity to intern with the Florida Supreme Court in Tallahassee, FL.  Students who intern during the school year attend Florida State University’s law school as a visiting student during that time.   This is a great opportunity for students interested in the inner workings of the state’s highest court.

Applications for the Spring 2010 Florida Supreme Court Internship Program for Distinguished Florida Law Students are now available from the Career Development Office, Room A112 or from your CDO advisor.

An information session regarding the program and application requirements will be held on Monday, September 21st at 12:30 p.m. in Room 108.  Former interns will be on hand to discuss their experiences at the Court.  The deadline to submit application materials to Dean Cox in the Career Development Office is Monday, September 28th at 5:00 p.m.
