The University of North Carolina School of Law in Chapel Hill Seeks a Director of Judicial Clerkships and Alternative Careers

The University of North Carolina School of Law in Chapel Hill is currently seeking a Director of Judicial Clerkships and Alternative Careers.

The Career Development Office at the University of North Carolina School of Law facilitates the career exploration and job search process for its students, recent graduates and alumni. Each Director is responsible for providing career advising to students and managing a portfolio of career planning and professional development programs, events and administrative processes. Directors report to the Assistant Dean for Career Development.

The Director of Judicial Clerkships and Alternative Careers provides counseling and programming designed to inform and assist law students and alumni interested in judicial clerkships and alternatives to traditional legal practice. Among other things, the incumbent directs the administrative processes involved in the production of letters of recommendation and other aspects of the clerkship application process for students and alumni. This position is full-time.

Educational Requirements:

Juris Doctor from an accredited law school OR an advanced degree in an appropriate discipline.

Qualifications & Experience:

  1. A minimum of two years of professional experience required, with preference given to former judicial clerks or those with significant experience advising students and alumni in a career development office
  2. Excellent writing, administrative, and interpersonal skills
  3. Familiarity with the judicial clerkship application process
  4. Familiarity with non-traditional legal career paths and opportunities
  5. Familiarity with North Carolina legal market
  6. Familiarity with the academic program at the UNC School of Law
