LKQ Corporation Seeks Government Affairs Interns for the 2013-2014 LKQ Government Affairs Internship Program
SUMMARY: Large publicly traded company seeking undergraduate or graduate students to serve as Government Affairs Interns for the 2013-2014 LKQ Government Affairs Internship Program. LKQ Corporation is the largest nationwide provider of aftermarket and recycled collision replacement parts for automobiles and other vehicles. LKQ is also a leading distributor of mechanical replacement parts such as remanufactured engines and refurbished collision replacement products including wheels, bumper covers and lights. Globally, LKQ has just under 20,000 employees and operates more than 430 facilities. The LKQ Government Affairs Department (GAD) is located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The LKQ Government Affairs Internship Program will enable students to learn a wide range of career topics from federal and state legislation to public relations and analytical research while gaining knowledge of the automotive industry as a whole. The LKQ GAD Intern will become skilled and experienced in the field of government affairs through task-oriented exposure and involvement. On a daily basis, the LKQ GAD Intern will perform assignments directly related to the legislative process and various industry issues. Moreover, the LKQ GAD Intern will participate in special projects specifically designed to develop the Intern’s research, analytical, critical-thinking and leadership skills. In terms of mentorship opportunities, the LKQ GAD Intern will interact with senior executives, industry experts, state lobbyists and government affairs professionals to learn about their leading and critical roles within the company, industry and legislative process. By the end of the internship program, the LKQ GAD Intern will be equipped with solid experience, skills and industry contacts to pursue a career in government affairs or advance to graduate studies in law, political science, communications, and other related fields.
TIME COMMITMENT: Internship from December 2013 through June 2014 (20 – 30 hours a week).
OPTION #1 – ACADEMIC CREDIT: Interns may arrange to receive academic credit from his/her university advisor(s). LKQ Government Affairs will assist in verifying hours on the job and work load.
OPTION #2 – PAID INTERNSHIP: Interns may participate in a paid internship at $10/hour.
