FLORIDA NELA ADVOCACY FELLOWSHIP

The Florida Chapter of the National Employment Lawyers Association (“FL NELA”) is seeking up to three (3) Summer Advocacy Fellows for Summer 2014.

FL NELA’s mission is to advance employee rights and serve lawyers who advocate for equality and justice in the workplace. FL NELA is part of the country’s largest professional organization that is exclusively comprised of lawyers who represent individual employees in cases involving employment discrimination, employee benefits, illegal workplace harassment and retaliation, as well as other employment related matters. FL NELA pursues its mission through education, amicus curie briefs, technical support, and other activities.

Description of Position: 

The Summer Advocacy Fellow will be based in a FL NELA member’s firm located in either the Middle District, Northern District, or Southern District of Florida, and will report to and be under the general supervision of that firm’s managing partner. The Fellow will use his/her independent judgment, initiative and creativity in managing and prioritizing his/her workload. 

Qualifications: 

Applicants should have completed at least one year of law school. They should possess excellent research and writing skills and have a demonstrated commitment to workers’ rights or civil rights. Experience or course work in employment law is preferred. Preference will be given to first time recipients, and applicants who complete their own applications for consideration for the fellowship. FL NELA is unable to accommodate requests to use the fellowship for academic credits.

Start Date for the fellowship: Flexible. Starting around May 28, 2014. 

End Date: Flexible. Minimum ten (10) weeks required.
