Founded in 1970, it is dedicated to advancing equal justice under law and addressing economic, racial, and other inequities by delivering free legal and social services to the most vulnerable members of our community. Public Counsel operates eight legal projects: Children\u2019s Rights, Community Development, Consumer Rights, Homelessness Prevention, Immigrants\u2019 Rights, Veterans\u2019 Rights, the Audrey Irmas Project for Women &amp; Girls\u2019 Rights, and our impact litigation project, Opportunity Under Law. Public Counsel has a full-time staff of over 130. We seek to have a racially inclusive staff.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>OPPORTUNITY:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Public Counsel is seeking to host law students or recent graduate for Equal Justice Works or Skadden Fellowships to begin in the fall of 2021. This year Public Counsel will consider fellowship proposals limited to those which fall in the following areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Children\u2019s Rights<\/strong>, especially focused on juvenile justice, education rights, child welfare, and\/or children and youth with<\/li>\n<li><strong>Homelessness Prevention<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Opportunity Under Law: <\/strong>projects centered around impact litigation in areas related to economic justice, education equity, criminalization of poverty, children\u2019s rights, or immigrants\u2019 rights.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Applications for those proposing 2020 Equal Justice Works or Skadden fellowship projects should be <u>submitted by August 1, 2020<\/u>. We do not have an application form separate from those used by the organizations that fund the fellowships. Students who are interested in a fellowship at Public Counsel should send their resume and a brief description of their proposed directly with the <u>Directing Attorneys<\/u> of the Public Counsel project you wish to work with.
