{"id":887,"date":"2010-04-01T18:35:14","date_gmt":"2010-04-01T21:35:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cdo.law.miami.edu\/?p=887"},"modified":"2010-08-13T13:42:27","modified_gmt":"2010-08-13T16:42:27","slug":"the-college-of-workers%e2%80%99-compensation-lawyers-2010-writing-competition-for-law-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cdo.law.miami.edu\/?p=887","title":{"rendered":"The College of Workers\u2019 Compensation Lawyers 2010 Writing Competition for Law Students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The College of Workers\u2019 Compensation Lawyers 2010 Writing Competition for Law Students<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Submissions are now being accepted for the 2010 College of Workers\u2019 Compensation Lawyers Law Student Writing Competition.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">TOPIC:<\/span> The scope of permissible topics is broad, i.e., any aspect of workers\u2019 compensation law.\u00a0 Students are encouraged to present:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a public policy issue;<\/li>\n<li>a critique of a leading case or doctrine; or<\/li>\n<li>a comment on a statute or the need for a statutory modification.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">ELIGIBILITY:<\/span> All students currently enrolled in accredited law schools in the United States and all those recently graduated from them (graduation on or after May, 2009).<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">PRIZES: <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>First prize &#8211; $1,500.00\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Second prize &#8211; $1,000.00<\/p>\n<p>Third prize &#8211; $500.00<\/p>\n<p>The winner\u2019s article will also be considered for publication in the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Workers\u2019 First Watch<\/span>, The Workers\u2019 Injury Law and Advocacy Group (WILG) magazine, or in a future issue of an appropriate ABA committee newsletter or journal.\u00a0 The winner will also be invited (expenses paid) to the\u00a0 Annual College Induction Dinner to be honored during the program.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The College of Workers\u2019 Compensation Lawyers 2010 Law Student Writing Competition Rules<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Articles must be original from the applicant, and limited to one entry.\u00a0 Articles must not presently be under consideration for any other publication or written as part of paid employment.<\/p>\n<p>All articles are to be submitted in the following format:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Submitted by email to <a href=\"mailto:cwcl@airmail.net\">cwcl@airmail.net<\/a> (Please reference \u201cWriting Competition\u201d in the subject line.);<\/li>\n<li>All articles are to be submitted <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">by November 1, 2010<\/span><\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>Double-spaced,on 8 \u00bd inch by 11 inch paper, 1 inch margins;<\/li>\n<li>Entries should be between 10 and 20 pages in length (including endnotes);<\/li>\n<li>Citations are to conform to \u201cA Uniform System of Citation\u201d (The Bluebook).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If published by the College, the articles become the property of the College.\u00a0 No submitted article may be published elsewhere until after announcement of the winners of the competition.\u00a0 Announcement of the winners will be made at least 30 days in advance of the Annual College Induction Dinner, March 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Include a cover letter with your entry stating your name, mailing address and phone number (both school and permanent), name of school and year of graduation.<\/p>\n<p>Applicant must be currently enrolled in an accredited law school or submit entry within 60 days of graduation.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Judging<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The evaluation standards will be organization, quality of research, depth, originality of analysis, clarity of style and readability.\u00a0 The College reserves the right not to award and\/or to reject any or all submissions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The College of Workers\u2019 Compensation Lawyers 2010 Writing Competition for Law Students Submissions are now being accepted for the 2010 College of Workers\u2019 Compensation Lawyers Law Student Writing Competition.
