{"id":6515,"date":"2014-05-01T19:20:04","date_gmt":"2014-05-01T22:20:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cdo.law.miami.edu\/?p=6515"},"modified":"2014-05-01T19:20:04","modified_gmt":"2014-05-01T22:20:04","slug":"cuban-american-bar-foundation-scholarships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cdo.law.miami.edu\/?p=6515","title":{"rendered":"Cuban American Bar Foundation Scholarships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The following are the CABA at-large scholarships available to any currently enrolled law student through the Cuban American Bar Foundation:<\/p>\n<ol start=\"1\">\n<li><strong>Osvaldo Soto Scholarship \u2013\u00a0\u00a0$2,500<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Judge Margarita Esquiroz\u00a0Scholarship \u2013 $2,500<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>CABA Scholarship \u2013 $2500<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>CABA Scholarship \u2013 $2500<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>CABA Scholarship \u2013 $2500<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The application deadline is <strong>June 30th<\/strong> each academic year. To be eligible for consideration for all of these scholarships, law students must meet the required criteria. Applicants need only submit one application package to be considered for all at-large scholarships. The CABA Foundation Scholarship Committee \u00a0will make its selections from those submissions it receives and formally announce the recipients at the CABA Foundation Fall Mentor Program Reception in October or November of each year.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the at-large scholarships, CABA has endowed scholarships at the following law schools:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>University<\/strong><strong> of Miami<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Florida<\/strong><strong> International University<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>St.\u00a0Thomas<\/strong><strong> University<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Nova Southeastern University<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Florida<\/strong><strong> State\u00a0University<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>University<\/strong><strong> of Florida<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Students enrolled in these law schools should contact the Dean of Students in the respective school to get scholarship criteria and application deadlines.\u00a0 October 1 is the latest for acceptance of school submittals. \u00a0Recipients of these endowed scholarships will also be announced at the Fall Mentor Reception.<\/p>\n<p>Should you have any questions please feel free to contact\u00a0<a title=\"link\" href=\"mailto:sferrera@melandrussin.com\" target=\"_blank\">Sandra M. Ferrera<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Criteria of Eligibility: Each year, the Cuban American Bar Foundation awards a limited number of scholarships to applicants who meet one or both of the following criteria:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A currently admitted or enrolled law student in good academic standing at an accredited law school who meets the following criteria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Is Cuban or Cuban-American and has distinguished\u00a0himself\/herself academically and\/or in service oriented activities;<\/li>\n<li>Has distinguished himself\/herself in research,\u00a0writing, community service and\/or other activities of importance to the \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Cuban-American community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Preference may be shown to applicants who demonstrate financial need, but such need is not a prerequisite for a scholarship award. To be considered for a scholarship, a law student must submit all of the following application components:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An essay of no more than 1,000 words describing how\u00a0the applicant is qualified pursuant to the eligibility criteria set forth above (applicants who wish to detail financial need must do so within this\u00a0word limit as well);<\/li>\n<li>An updated resume; and<\/li>\n<li>A copy of most recent transcript.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Please have students submit their application to <a title=\"link\" href=\"mailto:sferrera@melandrussin.com\" target=\"_blank\">Sandra M.
