RULES<\/strong><\/span>:<\/p>\n

The submission must be on a subject in the area of environmental, land use, zoning or energy law and must be relevant to Florida.\u00a0 The first place prize is a cash award of $500 and free admittance to and an additional $500 towards expenses at the 2014 Annual Update of the Environmental and Land Use Law Section. Second and third place prizes are free admittance to the Annual Update but do not include any cash award.\u00a0 Papers should be postmarked or delivered to The Florida Bar no later than May 23, 2014.<\/em> <\/strong>Papers failing to comply with the deadline will not be considered except upon a majority vote of the judging committee under extraordinary circumstances.<\/p>\n

Judging is by members of the Environmental and Land Use Law Section of The Florida Bar and is based on creativity and originality of thought; breadth and depth of content, analysis, and sources; objectivity (all sides of problem presented) and legal accuracy; effectiveness of communication (including grammar, punctuation, and style); practicality of the paper and its proposed solutions for addressing current problems; and compliance with the competition rules.\u00a0 Authors may not contact members of the judging committee.<\/p>\n

Any submission must be the work of a single author, who is a student (J.D.) at a Florida law school, which work has not been published previously, is not pending publication and does not infringe upon any statutory or common law copyright or other right and does not contain obscene, defamatory, or otherwise unlawful material or violate any right of privacy.\u00a0 Papers may be no less than 10 pages (2,500 words) nor more than 50 pages (17,500 words), double-spaced in conventional typeface, 12-point font size, and 1 inch margins and may be edited for possible publication in The Florida Bar Journal<\/b> to no more than 12 double-spaced pages, including citations. \u00a0Each page must have a header including the title of the paper and a page number.\u00a0 For anonymous evaluation of the entries, no information that could identify the author should appear anywhere in the body of the paper, including in the header.\u00a0 Each entry must have a separate cover sheet (not included in the page limit) that includes the following contact information: (1) name; (2) address; (3) phone number; (4) email address, (5) law school and (6) paper title.\u00a0 Citations may be footnotes or endnotes and shall be in accordance with Rule 9.800, Florida Rules of Appellate Procedure, <\/b>and, to the extent not inconsistent with those Rules, A <\/b>Uniform System of Citation<\/b> (most recent edition).<\/p>\n

Each paper submitted will be listed and indexed by the Environmental and Land Use Law Section and made available as a scholarly resource to Section members.\u00a0 All entries shall be submitted to Calbrail Bennett, Section Administrator, Environmental and Land Use Law Section, The Florida Bar, 651 E.
