Ms. Pe\u00f1a became a victim of state-sponsored violence when both her husband and brother disappeared and, consequently, assassinated. These acts led her to seek a life dedicated to the defense of human rights. Lilia works tirelessly for the rights of all Colombians, and is recognized on a national level for her outspoken leadership. Because of her extensive knowledge of victims\u2019 rights and needs, particularly vis-\u00e0-vis the current peace process with the FARC, Lilia was chosen by a Coalition of more than 200 human rights organizations and social movements to represent them in a 2013 US tour.<\/p>\n<p>The event takes place on Wednesday, November 13, 2013, from 12:30 p.m. \u2013 1:50 p.m. in the University of Miami Law Library, Room D-201.
