Overly Memorial Scholarship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Helene M. Overly Memorial Scholarship was established in 1981 by the Women&#8217;s Transportation Seminar (&#8220;WTS&#8221;) to encourage women to pursue career paths in transportation. The scholarship is awarded to women pursuing graduate studies in transportation or a related field.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In memory of Helene M. Overly, the first Executive Secretary of WTS, the Board of Directors voted to name the annual WTS graduate scholarship, the Helene M. Overly Memorial Scholarship, to honor Helene for her dedicated service to WTS.\u00a0 Helene became a WTS member in 1981.\u00a0 She brought with her 15 years of experience in public service, tremendous organizational abilities, and a spirit of determination that helped WTS nearly double its membership in two years.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Helene M. Overly Memorial Scholarship is in the amount of $2,000.\u00a0 The minimum criteria for selection are as follows:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>a.\u00a0\u00a0 Open to women;<\/p>\n<p>b.\u00a0\u00a0 GPA of 3.0 or higher;<\/p>\n<p>c.\u00a0\u00a0 Currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in a transportation-related field, such as transportation engineering,\u00a0planning, finance or logistics; and<\/p>\n<p>d.\u00a0\u00a0 Plans to pursue a career in a transportation-related field\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Applications must be submitted through local WTS chapters. The scholarships are competitive and based on the applicant&#8217;s specific transportation involvement and goals, job skills and academic record.\u00a0 Minority candidates are encouraged to apply.\u00a0 National awards will be presented on May 20, 2010 and attendance at awards dinner is strongly recommended.\u00a0 Local WTS chapters may have their own requirements (such as personal interviews, GPA or statement).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If interested in applying, please return the completed application to:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Birgit Olkuch<\/p>\n<p>1003 Ferdinand Street<\/p>\n<p>Coral Gables, FL 33134\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><strong>Applications must be returned<\/strong> no later than November 23, 2009<\/strong> and are available on the Student Portal, along with a flyer giving details.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Helene M.
