{"id":5104,"date":"2013-02-25T18:00:54","date_gmt":"2013-02-25T21:00:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cdo.law.miami.edu\/?p=5104"},"modified":"2013-02-25T18:02:39","modified_gmt":"2013-02-25T21:02:39","slug":"americans-for-immigrant-justice-childrens-legal-project-part-time-contract-position","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cdo.law.miami.edu\/?p=5104","title":{"rendered":"Americans for Immigrant Justice Children\u2019s Legal Project &#8211; Part-Time Contract Position"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Agency Background<\/span><\/b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">:\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Americans for Immigrant Justice (AI Justice), formerly FIAC, a not-for-profit law firm founded in 1996 to protect and promote the basic human rights of immigrants, has a multicultural and a multilingual staff.\u00a0 AI Justice has represented clients from around the world and is recognized as a powerful advocate and national leader for immigrants\u2019 rights. \u00a0AI Justice works closely with traditional civil rights organizations, as well as with grassroots organizations and local, state and national government officials to effect positive change in immigration policies.<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Duties:<\/span><\/b><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p>AI Justice is seeking a recent law graduate for its work with unaccompanied immigrant children.\u00a0 The individual will primarily assist unaccompanied children in immigration custody and will be responsible for the following duties:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Working closely with various government agencies and social services providers.<\/li>\n<li>Visiting shelters for unaccompanied immigrant children in the Miami area several times a week<\/li>\n<li>Conducting Know Your Rights presentations.<\/li>\n<li>Conducting individual client interviews.<\/li>\n<li>Translating for clients and\/or attorneys at interviews, hearings and presentations.<\/li>\n<li>Completing applications for immigration relief.<\/li>\n<li>Assisting with preparation of motions and other court documents.<\/li>\n<li>Scheduling client visits.<\/li>\n<li>Conducting daily case management and maintaining database.<\/li>\n<li>Coordinating legal services for unaccompanied children in federal custody.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Qualifications:<\/span><\/b><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Energetic, friendly and responsible.<\/li>\n<li>Experience working with adolescents preferred.<\/li>\n<li>Previous BIA accreditation helpful.\u00a0 <b><\/b><\/li>\n<li>Experience in public interest law, particularly immigration law or child welfare, helpful.\u00a0 <b><\/b><\/li>\n<li>Familiarity with Microsoft Office required.\u00a0 Knowledge of client database systems helpful.<b><\/b><\/li>\n<li>Excellent people skills.<b><\/b><\/li>\n<li>Ability to work independently and under pressure<\/li>\n<li>Written and verbal proficiency in Spanish and English required.<b><\/b><\/li>\n<li>Valid Driver\u2019s license and reliable transportation needed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Education:<\/span><\/b><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>BA or an advanced degree.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Salary<\/span><\/b>:\u00a0 This is a part time contract position (20 hours\/week).\u00a0 Salary commensurate with experience.<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">To Apply<\/span><\/b><b>:<\/b>\u00a0 Submit resume <a title=\"link\" href=\"mailto:info@aijustice.org\" target=\"_blank\">via email<\/a>.
