Summer Corps members expand the delivery of critically needed legal assistance in low-income and underserved communities across the country for veterans, homeowners facing foreclosure, disaster victims, and those facing other legal issues.<\/p>\n<p>Summer Corps is an AmeriCorps-funded program that will provide law students with the opportunity to earn a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award for dedicating their summer to a qualifying legal project at a nonprofit public interest organization. A Summer Corps applicant must be a current student at an Equal Justice Works <a href=\"http:\/\/www.equaljusticeworks.org\/law-school\/membership\/law-school-members\" target=\"_blank\">member law school<\/a>. Summer Corps Members may serve at a variety of organizations, as detailed <a href=\"http:\/\/equaljusticeworks.org\/law-school\/summercorps\/application\/eligibility\">here<\/a>. Among others, qualifying <a href=\"http:\/\/equaljusticeworks.org\/communities\/participants\/fellowships\">organizations<\/a>include those that currently host <a href=\"http:\/\/equaljusticeworks.org\/post-grad\/americorps-legal-fellowships\">Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps Legal Fellows<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/equaljusticeworks.org\/post-grad\/equal-justice-works-fellowships\">Equal Justice Works Fellows,<\/a> and those that are funded by the Legal Services Corporation (LSC).<\/p>\n<p>As part of the 2013 Summer Corps Program, 350 members will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Gain first-hand experience and legal skills in areas such as client intake, representation and legal research and writing;<\/li>\n<li>Assist veterans, military families, homeowners facing foreclosure, victims of disaster and other people in need of legal assistance;<\/li>\n<li>Complete at least 300 hours of legal service;<\/li>\n<li>Earn a $1,175 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award voucher that can be used to pay current educational expenses or qualified student loans (please note that this is a voucher, not a cash stipend, and will be paid directly from AmeriCorps to your lender or school);<\/li>\n<li>Have access to Equal Justice Works\u2019 network of alumni, experience and expertise as the nation\u2019s largest provider of public interest opportunities for law students and attorneys; and<\/li>\n<li>Become an official member of AmeriCorps, one of the largest national service networks in U.S. history.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To learn more about Summer Corps and how to apply, please explore the pages in the \u201cMore About This Program\u201d box on the <a title=\"link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.equaljusticeworks.org\/law-school\/summercorps\" target=\"_blank\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you have questions about the Summer Corps program, please send an <a title=\"link\" href=\"mailto:summercorps@equaljusticeworks.org\" target=\"_blank\">email<\/a>.\u00a0Due to the high volume of applicants, they will not be accepting calls.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Equal Justice Works Summer Corps Program provides law students with the chance to spend their summer working on a legal project at a qualifying nonprofit public interest organization of their choosing.
