{"id":3287,"date":"2012-02-29T14:59:02","date_gmt":"2012-02-29T17:59:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cdo.law.miami.edu\/?p=3287"},"modified":"2012-02-29T14:59:02","modified_gmt":"2012-02-29T17:59:02","slug":"paid-public-interest-summer-job-for-1ls-and-2ls-teach-criminal-law-to-rising-ninth-graders-in-legal-outreachs-summer-law-institute","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cdo.law.miami.edu\/?p=3287","title":{"rendered":"Paid Public Interest Summer Job for 1Ls and 2Ls &#8211; Teach Criminal Law to Rising Ninth Graders in Legal Outreach\u2019s Summer Law Institute"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Legal Outreach, Inc. prepares urban youth from underserved communities to compete at high levels by using intensive legal and educational programming as a tool for fostering vision, developing skills, enhancing confidence, and facilitating the pursuit of higher education.\u00a0 This is done through law-related education programming and an intensive college preparatory program.<\/p>\n<p>Legal Outreach seeks exceptional law students interested in law-related education to teach and co-lead the Summer Law Institutes held at Columbia Law School, NYU Law School, Fordham School of Law, Brooklyn Law School, New York Law School, and St. John\u2019s Schoolof Law this summer.\u00a0 The Institute seeks to inspire motivated students from underserved communities entering high school to pursue careers in law and to strive for educational excellence.<\/p>\n<p>SLI Coordinators will work with an attorney supervisor to prepare for the Institute during the month of June by participating in an experiential classroom training program on educational methodology, developing lesson plans on substantive criminal law topics and trial advocacy skills, and organizing an itinerary of guest speakers and field trip visits.\u00a0 Then, from June 2 \u2013 August 3, coordinators will implement the five-week Institute.\u00a0 You will teach law lessons daily, chaperone field trips, welcome prestigious guest speakers, and run a mock trial competition before federal and state judges. The last week of the job will be spent evaluating the program and its participants.\u00a0 Coordinators will be paid $4,500 over the 10-week period.<\/p>\n<p>Interested applicants should email a resume and cover letter to: <a title=\"link\" href=\"mailto: SLI@legaloutreach.org \" target=\"_blank\">Stephanie Shemin Feingold<\/a>, Director of Legal Education.
