This is achieved this through a range of activities: strategic litigation through co-representation, legal support to applicants and third party interventions before international, regional, and national human rights courts and bodies; advising lawyers on the use of international and comparative human rights law before their domestic courts; building capacity through litigation partnerships, targeted training activities and internships, and through the dissemination of legal information. Thematically, the priorities<br \/>\nare equality, security and the rule of law (including counter-terrorism), and economic and social rights (ESR). INTERIGHTS currently focuses its activities in Africa, the Commonwealth, Europe, the Middle East and North\u00a0 Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Volunteers provide valuable legal research and drafting assistance to lawyers, helping with the preparation of legal briefs, training materials and publications on human rights.<\/p>\n<p>This volunteer placement is for two months. This is an unpaid position but the organization will reimburse out of pocket expenses of a travel card zone 1-6 and up to \u00a35 a day for lunch. Volunteers are required to provide receipts to claim these expenses.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Essential<\/span><\/strong><\/em><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Law qualification<\/li>\n<li>Experience of working in the human rights sector in Africa<\/li>\n<li>Experience or knowledge\u00a0 of working on economic and social rights (ESR) issues<\/li>\n<li>Sophisticated understanding of issues and legal standards related to the protection from right to education violations<\/li>\n<li>Strong research, analytical and writing skills<\/li>\n<li>Fluency in English<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrable an interest in international human rights law<\/li>\n<li>Have the right to work in the UK or successfully obtain a sponsorship certificate<\/li>\n<li>Confident and proficient in the use of MS Office<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrable ability to produce high quality work products<\/li>\n<li>Sensitivity to working in a multi-cultural environment and commitment to equal<br \/>\nopportunities<\/li>\n<li>Commitment to the values and mission of INTERIGHTS<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Desirable<\/span><\/strong><\/em><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Extensive experience in litigating before domestic and\/or regional courts in Africa<\/li>\n<li>Connections with organisations focusing on ESR in the region \/ internationally<\/li>\n<li>Familiarity with international human rights standards and mechanisms<\/li>\n<li>Familiarity with\u00a0 regional and\u00a0 international standards on ESR<\/li>\n<li>Previous experience of working in an NGO setting<\/li>\n<li>Working knowledge of French<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To apply, please <a title=\"link\" href=\"mailto:jobs@interights.org\" target=\"_blank\">email<\/a> your cover letter, curriculum vitae, equal opportunities and diversity monitoring form (can be<a title=\"link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.interights.org\/vacancies\" target=\"_blank\"> downloaded<\/a>) and an unedited writing sample of no more than 2,000 words <em><strong>by 15 January 2012<\/strong><\/em>.
