{"id":264,"date":"2009-08-14T08:47:17","date_gmt":"2009-08-14T13:47:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cdo.law.miami.edu\/?p=264"},"modified":"2009-08-14T08:47:17","modified_gmt":"2009-08-14T13:47:17","slug":"free-webinar-training-for-deferred-firm-associates-taking-public-interest-placements","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cdo.law.miami.edu\/?p=264","title":{"rendered":"Free Webinar Training for Deferred Firm Associates Taking Public Interest Placements"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><strong>Public Interest  Perspectives&#8211;An\u00a0Introductory Training for\u00a0Private Attorneys\u00a0in Public Interest  Placements<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><strong>Save the Date:\u00a0 September 9, 2009  at 1:00pm Eastern Time<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Association of Pro  Bono Counsel and NALP are pleased to announce<strong><strong> a free national training for attorneys beginning  volunteer public interest placements<\/strong><\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0 Please pass  this on to interested parties.<\/p>\n<p><strong><strong>What:<\/strong><\/strong> A\u00a0free national  web-based\u00a0training for\u00a0attorneys who are\u00a0beginning extended public service  placements with legal\u00a0aid and other nonprofit\u00a0legal organizations.\u00a0\u00a0 The  training will provide\u00a0an overview of the differences in law firm and nonprofit  practice settings, insight on working with low-income clients, and background on  the economic challenges presently being confronted by the public interest  community.<\/p>\n<p><strong><strong>Who:<\/strong><\/strong> The training is  designed for all\u00a0attorneys taking temporary, extended public interest  placements.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0While the training\u00a0focuses particularly\u00a0on practice in\u00a0civil legal  services organizations,\u00a0the\u00a0information is relevant to\u00a0most public interest  settings.\u00a0 \u00a0A coalition of public interest leaders from the legal aid community  and the private bar designed and will present this training.<\/p>\n<p><strong><strong>Why:<\/strong><\/strong> As a result of the  current economy, many attorneys, especially newer attorneys,\u00a0who\u00a0expected to be  in private practice are\u00a0beginning extended placements in legal aid and other  public interest organizations.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 This training aims to provide a bridge program  for associates transitioning into a practice setting with which they may be  unfamiliar.\u00a0 By providing this preliminary training, we hope to best prepare  these attorneys to engage in this unique opportunity to contribute to and learn  about the public interest legal community.<\/p>\n<p><strong><strong>When:<\/strong><\/strong> This 2 hour program  will be offered on <strong><strong>September 9, 1:00pm Eastern  Time. <\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><strong>Where:<\/strong><\/strong> This\u00a0training\u00a0can  be\u00a0accessed\u00a0from any computer and phone line.\u00a0\u00a0In many cities, organizers are  planning a central location (bar association, law firm, etc.)\u00a0so\u00a0attorneys  may\u00a0participate in the training together.
