The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers invites law students from accredited law schools in the United States to submit essays for a chance to be published in The Champion <\/em>magazine.<\/p>\n

2011-2012 Essay Topic: \u201cTOUGH ON CRIME\u201d VS. \u201cSMART ON CRIME\u201d: WHAT\u2019S THE DIFFERENCE? What is the difference between \u201cbeing tough on crime\u201d and \u201cbeing smart on crime\u201d and what impact does each have on minority communities? <\/em><\/p>\n

Eligibility<\/span><\/strong>:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The contest is open to all students who are enrolled in the 2011-2012 academic year and in good academic standing at an accredited law school in the United States. For full contest rules, see the website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Prizes<\/span><\/strong>:<\/strong><\/p>\n

There will be one first prize winner, one second prize winner, and one honorable mention.<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. The first prize winner will have his or her winning essay published in a forthcoming edition of NACDL\u2019s magazine, The Champion<\/em>; receive a $200 cash prize; receive a free one-year student membership; and receive a certificate of recognition.<\/li>\n
  2. The second prize winner will have his or her essay published in NACDL\u2019s magazine, The Champion<\/em>; receive a $100 cash prize; receive a free one-year student membership; and receive a certificate of recognition.<\/li>\n
  3. The entrant who receives an honorable mention will have his or her essay published in NACDL\u2019s magazine, The Champion<\/em>; and will receive a certificate of recognition.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Deadline<\/span><\/strong>:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Entries must be received by 5 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time) on December 31, 2011.
