{"id":2024,"date":"2011-07-25T17:00:42","date_gmt":"2011-07-25T20:00:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cdo.law.miami.edu\/?p=2024"},"modified":"2011-07-25T17:00:42","modified_gmt":"2011-07-25T20:00:42","slug":"the-southern-poverty-law-center-seeks-managing-attorney-for-its-miami-office","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cdo.law.miami.edu\/?p=2024","title":{"rendered":"The Southern Poverty Law Center Seeks Managing Attorney for its Miami Office"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Southern Poverty Law Center is seeking a managing attorney for its Miami office to litigate cases related to education and juvenile justice reform throughout the state.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Project Description:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Southern Poverty Law Center (&#8220;SPLC&#8221;) works to reduce the imprisonment of children by advocating for juvenile justice and educational reforms.\u00a0 SPLC works to end school disciplinary practices that exclude students from public schools and to reduce the over-incarceration of children.\u00a0 The Miami office has a leadership team which includes the Managing Attorney, Director of Advocacy and the Policy Director.<\/p>\n<p>SPLC uses a variety of strategies\u00a0in their work\u2014including community engagement and mobilizing, legislative and media advocacy and litigation.\u00a0 Litigation successes include IDEA litigation which has resulted in the reform of overly punitive, ineffective disciplinary policies.\u00a0 SPLC attorneys have also successfully worked to reduce the number of children imprisoned in several states in the Deep South.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Responsibilities of Position:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>SPLC is\u00a0currently seeking an experienced and dedicated attorney to work collaboratively on multiple initiatives.
