{"id":1379,"date":"2010-10-26T17:06:40","date_gmt":"2010-10-26T20:06:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cdo.law.miami.edu\/?p=1379"},"modified":"2010-10-26T17:06:40","modified_gmt":"2010-10-26T20:06:40","slug":"mendes-hershman-student-writing-contest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cdo.law.miami.edu\/?p=1379","title":{"rendered":"Mendes Hershman Student Writing Contest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The American Bar Association Business Law Section is sponsoring \t\t\t\tits 25th annual Mendes Hershman student writing contest to encourage and reward law student \t\t\t\twritings on a business law subject of general and current \t\t\t\tinterest.<\/p>\n<div>\n<h2>Submissions Guidelines<\/h2>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>ABA-accredited law schools may nominate high quality papers on a business  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tlaw topic written in the 2009-2010 or current academic year by a student  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcurrently enrolled in the law school&#8217;s J.D. program.<\/li>\n<li> The paper may be specifically prepared for this contest; submitted in \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\ta class, seminar, or as an independent study; or a proposed law \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\treview\/journal note, comment or article.<\/li>\n<li> Papers that have been submitted to or published by a student \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tpublication are acceptable for submission to the contest. The application \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tform must indicate to which publications the work has been submitted and if \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tit has been published.<\/li>\n<li> Papers submitted are normally 20-30 pages long, but in any event \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tshould not exceed 100 pages of double-spaced typed text, including \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfootnotes.<\/li>\n<li> A student need not be a member of the Business Law Section to \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tparticipate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>To apply:<\/strong><br \/>\nAll entries must be submitted electronically by Friday, January 14, 2011.  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"http:\/\/www.abanet.org\/buslaw\/hershman\/2010-11hershman.doc\">Click here<\/a> to download a cover form to be included with your entry. Please check back this Spring for details on the 2010-2011 Contest.  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t--><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h2>Awards<\/h2>\n<div>\n<p>The prizes for the writing contest are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>First Place:<\/strong> $2,500 to the first place winner to be presented at the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tBusiness Law Section Spring Meeting in Boston, MA.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Second Place:<\/strong> $1,000 to the second place winner to be presented at the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tBusiness Law Section Spring Meeting in Boston, MA.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Third Place:<\/strong> $500 to the third place winner to be presented at the Section \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tof Business Law Section Spring Meeting in Boston, MA.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each winner will receive all expenses paid by the Section to attend the 2011 Spring Meeting in Boston, MA to collect \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\this\/her prize.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h2>Judging<\/h2>\n<div>\n<p>The papers will be judged on research and analysis, choice of topic, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twriting style, originality, and contribution to the literature available \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\ton the topic. Depending on the topic, prior publication, and other \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfactors, a previously unpublished first place winning essay may be considered for \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tpublication in a Section publication.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h2>Subject<\/h2>\n<div>\n<p>&#8220;Business Law&#8221; is a broad category.
